Judge Alan Blankenship sentenced Kevin D. Padgett, age 46, to 15 years in the Missouri Department Corrections on eight counts of statutory rape and 25 counts of statutory sodomy.
The crimes involved an 11-year-old victim in a time period from September of 2007 and August of 2008. The sentences are to run concurrently by agreement with the victim’s family.
“My office is very pleased with the sentences received in this case,” said Robert E. George, prosecuting attorney for Lawrence County. “The defendant was married to the victim’s mother and was able to hide this activity for over four years. Because of the graphic nature of the crimes, the victim did not want to testify in front of a number of strangers. This sentence allows us to comply with the victim’s wishes and send this man to prison for a number of years.”
The case had been transferred from Lawrence County to Stone County at the defendant’s request. According to information filed with the court, the deviate sexual acts and rape took place between September 1, 2007, and August 18, 2008, while the victim and her family were living in Lawrence County.
“I want to commend the Aurora Police Department, the investigators with the Missouri Children’s Division, the Children’s Center in Monett and investigators from White County, Arkansas, for their assistance in this case. Because of the quality of the investigation, we were able to obtain a plea on each of the counts, without the need for the child taking the stand,” George noted.
