A fund drive is under way to raise money for a new fountain at city hall to replace the non-functioning older model on the north side of the lawn.
Various local businesses have jumped on the band wagon to show their support of the project.
City Manager Tony Stonecypher found the fountain at the city hall not functioning when he arrived on the job in Aurora in 2010. He took the initiative to visit with Bud Hukill at Aurora Motor and Machine about designing a new fountain.
While the city’s budget is a bit tight for non-
essential items, Stonecypher approached Main Street Aurora about securing $5,000 funding for the fountain project. To date the 501(c)3 group has raised $3,500.
Plans call for the fountain to be seven-to-eight-foot tall and built of pipe welding caps (“bull plugs”) made of heavy steel. Hukill estimated his cost of the fountain at $3,231 last summer.
The cost estimate does not include shipping costs for the steel, a powder-coated paint  finish, the cost of plumbing and pumps or enhancing the concrete base to hold the weight of the steel fountain. Stonecypher noted the pump work and concrete work can be done by city staff employees.
Main Street Aurora helps sponsor events aimed at community betterment, improvements, culture, arts, entertainment and education.
