On March 25, officials with the Aurora Police Department received information from the Joplin Police Department that a person wanted in connection with the robbery of a Joplin bank was staying in a room at the Aurora Inn. The suspect also had an active warrant for desertion and was possibly armed, according to a report from Interim Police Chief Pat Jenkins.
Five members of the Aurora Police Department and two troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol went to the Aurora Inn. Employees at the hotel assisted APD officers in making phone contact with the suspect, who surrendered peacefully to officers, said Jenkins. APD officers secured the hotel room and awaited the arrival of detectives from Joplin.
Officers arrested Timur Mitchell Short, 22, of rural Aurora, on a warrant charging felony desertion and turned him over to JPD officers. Robbery charges have since been filed in connection with the Joplin bank robbery. Short is a person of interest in at least two incidents in Aurora, as well as several incidents in other jurisdictions, noted Jenkins. Investigations are continuing into these matters.
