The persons have been identified that are allegedly responsible for the burglaries of five downtown businesses, according to a report from Interim Police Chief Pat Jenkins. Four juvenile males (two who are 15 years of age and two who are 16 years of age) and one 18-year-old male are being charged with the crimes. The name of the adult is being withheld pending the formal filing of charges. The value of stolen property recovered totaled $2,895.
On July 2, officers took a report of a stolen 1994 Ford Aspire. The vehicle was later recovered in Mt. Vernon.
On July 7, officers responded to a check-well-being call. A 16 year old had cut his wrist. He was transported by ambulance to Springfield.
On July 8, officers took a report of a stolen 2006 Dodge 2500 pickup from a local dealership. On this same date, officers took a report of a railroad cart being stolen from the gravel lot between the railroad tracks between Elliott Avenue and McNatt Avenue.
