Captain Pat Jenkins will serve as the interim police chief in Aurora, according to an announcement from City Manager Tom Palmer.
The new assignment for Capt. Jenkins, a 25-year veteran of the local department, becomes effective January 8, following the retirement of Police Chief Rick Batson.
Jenkins has been at the rank of captain since July of 1994. She has served as interim chief two previous times during those years.
“I appointed Capt. Jenkins as interim chief back in late 2002 before Batson was hired, and she served until the spring of 2003. Capt. Jenkins did an excellent job for the City of Aurora at that time and I am sure that with her many years of experience she will do an excellent job again,” said Palmer.
The city manager noted Capt. Jenkins will serve in the interim position until he can complete the hiring process for a new chief.
