Members of the Aurora Police Department and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force and Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office served a search warrant on May 12, at 15257 Lawrence 2160, Mt. Vernon, and subsequently arrested two individuals, according to Interim Police Chief Pat Jenkins.
Officers found and seized several small bags containing a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also found two bags of plant material that field-tested positive for marijuana, several pipes, a set of electronic scales, one bottle of Heet, Pyrex glassware, tubing, coffee filters that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine, other items consistent with the remains of methamphetamine labs and two firearms.
Officers arrested two residents of that location, Charles Edwards, 55, and Jeanetta Phelps, 47, and charged them with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Edward's bond has been set at $30,000, while Phelps' bond was set at $100,000, cash only. Phelps' criminal history shows several previous convictions related to controlled substances, Jenkins said.
A short time later, the same agencies served a search warrant at 422 East Prospect, Lot #58, Aurora. That investigation is continuing. No arrests were made at that time.
Both search warrants were obtained as a result of information gained from a variety of sources during a three-month-long investigation by Aurora Police officers Chris Kozisek and Chris Rackley.
