Through the  10th annual  School Readiness Fair sponsored by the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation’s Lawrence County Neighborhood Center, 181 students are better prepared to begin the new school year.

The fair took place on July 17 at the Aurora Baptist Temple Family Life Center. Approximately 200 students received school supplies, other items and information.

The students received folders, backpacks, paper, notebooks, markers, crayons, erasers, pencils, glue, facial tissues and other items necessary for school through the generosity of local residents and organizations.

In addition, the students/families received:
•  clothing vouchers from First Baptist Church
• screening for head lice
• information about general safety, nutrition, after-school possibilities, drug resistance, bullying prevention, immunizations, latch-key programs and relationship training

Groups or professionals participating included: Aurora Fire Department; Aurora Police Department; Barry-Lawrence Regional Library; Church on the Rock; Division of Family Services; Brian Petrovich, PsyD; Larry Forehand, D.D.S.; First Baptist Church; Grace Community Church; Internal Revenue Service; Missouri Gas Energy; Missouri Health Link; Missouri Parents Act; Parents As Teachers from Verona R-7 School District; Parent Information and Resource Center; St. John’s Hospital Trauma Center; Thrivent Lutheran; U.S. Army; and U.S. Marines.
