Aurora, Mo. -

Staff members in the Aurora R-8 School District are continuing their kindergarten readiness program this school year for parents and their children who will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2010.

This program has been developed to assist parents and the school district by working together before the next school year begins.  The children entering kindergarten next year also benefit by meeting the staff and becoming familiar with the building.

“And, besides, it’s fun!” said Rita White, director of the district’s Parents As Teachers program.

Programs are from 1:35 to 2:15 p.m., and are set for the following Fridays:  January 22, February 26, March 26 an April 30.

This program is for all of next year’s kindergartners – it doesn’t take the place of preschool or Head Start.  Parents will meet with the kindergarten teachers while the children do activities with a teacher. Each month the children and parents will visit different rooms.

“You are invited to participate in as many sessions as you can. If you (parents) are unable to bring your child, it would be fine for another adult (grandparent, babysitter, aunt, etc.) to bring your child, as long as the adult that brings them stays at school during the readiness program.  Children can’t be dropped off,” said White.
