Summer school will take place in the Aurora R-8 District this year!

Officials have been walking a tightrope for the past few months when it appeared state funding would not be available and the program would have to be canceled.

Superintendent Dan Decker reported early today the General Assembly did not pass any legislation to deny summer school. Thus, the special session will take place.

The dates are June 1 through 24. The hours vary at the district’s individual attendance centers, but encompass approximately 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., or a full day of school.

Administrators at the attendance centers will serve as the directors for summer school. Any specific questions can be directed to them.

Because several children depend on the meals they receive while attending school, several local churches have been looking at ways to provide meals to hungry children during the summer. With summer school in session, students will have access to a breakfast and lunch.
