Members of the Marionville FFA saw the end of one era as they conducted their annual awards banquet. By the end of the evening, they were preparing for the next era.
Not only will the chapter change with a different lineup of officers in 2010-11, the chapter will have a different adviser. Mark Estep, who has directed the award-winning chapter since 1993, is moving into the principal’s position.
As a final piece of business for the evening, the chapter had a slide show to honor their adviser and ended with a receiving line where officers passed through and shared handshakes, hugs and pats on the back with Estep. Until that point, like a good leader, he had stood in the background giving his students the opportunity to show what they had learned under his tutelage.
Chapter President Jacob Hill presided over the meeting and led officers in the presentation of the evening’s awards.
Special awards to chapter members included:
• Anna Brown -- Junior Achievement Award
• Hill -- Dekalb Senior Leadership Award
• Trent Robinson -- James Kyle Memorial Award
• Hill -- Ozark Electric Coop Mechanics Award
Members receiving their Greenhand Degrees and related bronze pins included: Cole Ash, Nile Bear, AJ Bozman, Alex Brock, Kylee Campbell-Stockton, Ashley Carnes, Megan Ebright, Amanda Fuentes, Tracey Garoutte, Lillian Griffiths, Scott Hadley, Will Harris, Amy Hicks, Nate Hill, Laine Icks, Sarah Keuma, Nichole Konkowski, Kyle Linebaugh, Marty Minnis, Brooke Mitchell, Travis Moore, Earvin Morgan, Bailey Nelson, Caleb Norris, Sarah Rapp, Hannah Reavis, Tasha Reece, Sydney Rusher, Jessica Smith, Rachel Smith, Eli Stall, Nick Sapplee, Colton Terry, Erin Terry, Stephanie Tsosie, Rashaud Turner, James Vaughn and Zachary West.
Harris earned the title of Star Greenhand.
Progressing to the next level, 18 members earned the Chapter Degree, including: Brandon Benn, Quincey Bishop, JJ Bochmann, Mitchel Bottoms, Kortni Burk, Austin Fly, Nathan Gunn, Mariah Hillis, Aaron Hoar, Matt Jones, Ashley Kuoppamaki, Landen Metcalf, Maycee Mitchell, Shawn Pritchard, Dillon Rapp, Justin Sekscinski, Mikel Stewart and Nicholas Wilson.
Dillon Rapp received the honor of being the Star Chapter Farmer.
The chapter presented to Honorary Chapter Degrees to:
• Donna Naile, a science teacher at Marionville High School, who has been a supporter of the FFA for several years. Recently, she helped with the chapter’s canned food drive as a student motivator, sponsor and contributor. She has organized competitions within the student population which have added greatly to the number of food items collected.
• Judy Dingman, who serves as the publisher/editor for The Aurora Advertiser/Marionivlle Free Press. She has worked with the chapter in the field of public relations. Her contributions include publicizing chapter events and news. She is responsible for the annual FFA week supplement, copies of which were on the banquet tables for guests.
“Our chapter could not be the success that it is without the continued support of our community. Each year we recognize those people who have contributed to our program by awarding them the Honorary Chapter Degree,” said Hill.
Estep introduced a guest, Brian Leiby, to the crowd and noted he will be the next chapter adviser. Leiby is a graduate of McDonald County High School, Northeast Oklahoma A&M and Oklahoma State, where he is finishing his master’s degree in ag mechanics.
