Members of the Aurora R-8 School Board considered a variety of topics on June 21 relating to the 2010-11 school year.
Present for the second meeting of the month were Roger Dummit (president), Mark McCully, Don Sparks, Carolyn Swartz and Michele Parbury. Members Charles Foltz and Scott Welch were absent.
Under the heading of previous business, the board:
• approved course and career planning guides for the high school. Seniors will need four units of language arts; three units each of math, science and social studies; one each of fine arts, practical arts and physical education; one-half each of health and computer applications; and nine electives.
• approved personnel guides for bus drivers, maintenance staff, faculty, paraprofessionals and secretaries
• approved the board planning calendar for the year
• reviewed the contract with Sodexo for maintenance of the district’s 401,049 square feet of space in four attendance centers. The contract takes effect June 28.
• reviewed an update on membership on the health advisory committee
• tabled consideration of a contract with OACAC for use of the Lowell facility until the July 6 meeting
New business coming before the board and subsequent action included:
• approving the compliance plan for special education as prepared by Dr. Brenda Lakin
• reviewed adjustments to the 2009-2010 budget
• approved a budget plan for the 2010-11 year that included $800,888 in increases and $2,481,750 in reductions (Complete budget information is on file in the superintendent’s office for viewing during normal office hours.)
