AHS vocal students earn spot in regional choir

On September 12, high school students from the Missouri southwest region met at Cassville to compete for a spot in the 2009 All-District choir.
Twenty-one Aurora students were among the area students who were auditioned a solo piece, as well as sight-singing and key signature identification. The following 13 Aurora students were selected as members of the 2009 All-District choir: Jordon Butcher (senior), Marissa McKay (senior), Cord Schnakenberg (senior), Christina Beatie (junior), Josey Bodenhammer (junior), Jeanelle Hopkins (junior), Jaylon Skaggs (junior), Jackie Davis (sophomore), Collin Schnakenberg (sophomore), Ashley Wallace (sophomore), Chasity Edwards (freshman),  Georgianna Findsen (freshman), and Jordan Maddocks (freshman).
The Aurora High School choir students are under the direction of Kevin Williams. Pam Burton also traveled with the students to accompany some of the soloists on that day.
The students will travel to the Missouri Southern campus in Joplin on October 24, where they will spend a day of extensive rehearsal.
Area-wide juniors and seniors who ranked in the top 25 of each vocal part are allowed to audition for All State Choir on that day.
All seven junior and senior Aurora vocal students made the cut and will be auditioning for All-State.
The judges will choose four students from each section in the region to be members of the prestigious All-State Ensemble.
Those students will be announced during the All-District choir concert which will be performed at 5 p.m. October 24 at the MSSU campus. The public is invited to attend.
