Over 200 4-H club members, parents, staff and volunteers signed the registration sheets at southwest Missouri’s annual Regional 4-H Achievement Day on July 20 at the Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, according to Velynda Cameron, a University of Missouri Extension 4-H youth specialist.

"Members of 4-H qualify to participate at the regional event by excelling in a similar event held in their county earlier in the summer. They are the best in their county and compete to test the skills they have learned in 4-H," said Cameron.

A welcome to the Regional 4-H Achievement Day was extended by Layton Childress, Dean of Technical Education at OTC, Dr. Shirley Lawler, Vice President of Workforce Development at OTC and, Jay Chism, University of Missouri Extension Acting Regional Director. All three congratulated the 4-H members on their present achievements and challenged them to do great things.

“Regional 4-H Achievement Day serves as a testing ground for members to improve their skills in five areas of personal presentations and decision making,” said Cameron.

These skill areas include public speaking, fashion revue, project demonstrations, project judging and personal appearance.  Also, six club skits or talent numbers were performed by 4-H’ers from Dade, Greene, and Webster counties.
