The Verona School library is among three school libraries in Missouri to receive a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries. The $6,000 award will be used to purchase books and magazines to expand the library’s collection of bilingual and multicultural materials. Funds will also be used to pair books in English and Spanish to enrich the education of all students.
Judy L. Meadows, library media specialist, obtained this grant with the assistance of Kimberly D. Herrejon, a student at Missouri State University, under the guidance of Dr. Rosa Maria Mejia, endowed professor of Hispanic assimilation.
On May 28, the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries announced that 188 school libraries are being awarded $1,098,634 in grants for 2010. The schools receive grants of up to $6,000 to expand, update and diversify their library book collections.
