The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a 700-hour basic law enforcement academy starting August 23. The academy will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Persons who graduate from the 700-hour academy will graduate with a class "A" peace officer license; PPCT Defensive Tactics Certification; Taser Certification; OC/Pepper Spray Certification; First Responder Certification; NHTSA SFST Certification; Court Security Training; Less Lethal Munitions Certification and 120-hour Jail Officer Training.
Cost for the academy is $5,000. Veteran's benefits, financial aid and college credit hours are available for those who qualify.
