Vicki Davis of rural Crane is sharing a portion of her collection of hats for a display at the Aurora Historical Society Museum for the summer. The museum is housed in the east section of the restored depot at 121 East Olive; the Chamber of Commerce occupies the remainder of the facility.

The museum is available for guests to visit whenever the Chamber of Commerce office is open. In addition, members of the Aurora Historical Society will staff the museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month beginning on June 2.

Davis said she started wearing hats as a child when her mother told to wear a hat to avoid an ear ache, which she found to be good advice. She began to collect hats after she was married and even belonged to a hat society while living in Las Vegas.

She finds the hats in various places -- yard sales, flea markets, etc. When her husband’s aunt died, Davis received the aunt’s collection. Others come from people who know she collects and wears hats.
