The Aurora Junior High Band performed in the Marshfield Junior High Band Festival in Marshfield on March 3 and received an Exemplary rating. An Exemplary rating is the highest rating an ensemble may earn at festival.

The band’s concert selections included “Korean Folk Rhapsody” by James Curnow and “Zia, Zia! Spanish March” by Claude T. Smith, a Missouri native. After the performance, the each of the three judges presented a short clinic with the band to give the ensemble ideas to make the music even better.

Middle school and junior high bands from Bolivar, Cabool, Carthage, Camdenton, Humansville, Joplin, Marshfield, Springfield and St. James also performed in the festival.

Following the festival, the Aurora seventh and eighth grade band members took time to relax during a stop at Incredible Pizza, where the Friends of the Aurora Band treated the students to a buffet.

The Aurora Junior High Band is under the direction of Dalton Breshears and Erin Smith.
