Two new candidates have filed to be placed on the ballot ahead of the April 3 local elections in the past week, both in Verona elections. LaDonna Buzard added her name to the candidates filing in the Verona board of aldermen election, while Donald Craft signed up to run for the school board.

Buzard joins Susan Downs-Pikari as the candidates for the board of aldermen seat left vacant since last year.

Craft is an incumbent in the school board race, along with Jeff Hillhouse. Both will be running to retain their seats, while Lisa Army will be in the race as a challenger.

With two Aurora city council seats up for election -- those of Rick Boyer and Steve Ramirez -- only one candidate remains. With the resignation of Theresa Pettit from the race, only Doyle Ferguson is on the ballot as of press time on Wednesday.

In Marionville, current alderman Chris Murphy will be on the ballot for mayor, while Mayor Doris Rapp will run for Murphy's seat as alderman of Ward I. Running in Ward II is Melissa Freeman, and incumbent Jessica Wilson will run again for Ward III.

Those interested in filing their candidacy for the April 3 election may still do so, but the January 16 deadline is fast approaching.
