The Pride of Aurora Houn Dawg Marching Band kicked off the competitive season on Saturday, September 30 at Carl Junction with its show titled Revolution: 1917. Sixteen bands participated.
In preliminary competition, Aurora placed first in their class and swept all caption awards, which included best drum major, color guard and percussion.
Ten bands advanced to finals competition, where the Aurora band finished sixth overall and had the highest score for visual effect.
The band is under the direction of Erin Smith and Dalton Breshears. Ashley Norvell serves as color guard instructor. Drum majors are Kendall Meyer and Katie White.
The next competition for the Houn' Dawgs will be Saturday, October 7 in Springfield. They will then be performing at Valhalla at Parkview High School and Ozarko at Missouri State University.
