To the Community of Aurora,
Our Come and Dine Community Dinner held at Aurora First Baptist ended Wednesday, August 16. In the eight weeks (23 nights) of the dinner, we served 12.420 meals. Our low night was 387 meals served and our high was 619 meals. We averaged 540 each night.
I want to thank the following seven churches for helping to cook and serve the meals: Engage, Fundamental Methodist, Grace Lutheran, Holy Trinity Catholic, Nazarene, First Presbyterian Church and Orange Presbyterian, as well as Mercy Hospital.
If you add up the volunteers for the 23 nights, there was a total of 819 individuals who helped.
I also want to thank the following businesses, churches and organizations who contributed money or food/supplies for the dinner:Monetary donations -- Ag Forte, Arvest Bank, Aurora Rotary Club, Benivity Charities, Community National Bank, Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, Engage Church, First Independent Bank, Fundamental Methodist Church, Grace Lutheran, Heller Heat and Air, Holy Trinity Women's Circle, Journagan's True Value, K&L Electric, Lend Nation, Mayse Automotive, Mercy Hospital Aurora, Modern Variety, Orange Presbyterian Church, Pawnderosa Gun and Pawn, Parkway Central Corporation, South 39 Services and Southside Baptist Church. Food/supplies donations -- American Family Insurance, Bootleggers, Engage Church, Greater Springfield Farmers Market, Hiland Dairy, First Presbyterian Church, Schreiber Foods, Tyson Foods, Verona Baptist Church, Walmart and Wilson Avenue Baptist Church.
There were 23 donations from individuals of money and/or items such as lemonade, canned goods, etc.
There were 492 desserts donated from various churches and individuals. If you would count only $8 per dessert this would total a $3,936 donation.
It takes a lot of work to cook and serve this many meals. Thank you to everyone who had a part in any way. A special thanks to the wonderful people at Aurora First Baptist who contributed money, food items and time.
