On July 3-7, Aurora United Methodist (AUMC) held a Day Camp together with the Missouri Conference and Eagle Lake Camp, based out of Colorado Springs, for 104 children ages seven to 12 years old. The children enjoyed five days of contagious fun led by trained camp counselors. Incredible activities including Euro bungee, Spider Mountain, a large water slide, archery, Gaga Ball and Nine Square complemented the worship and Bible study that fully engaged each camper every day.

Campers arrived each morning to an enthusiastic greeting as they walked and ran through the Spirit Tunnel, a joyous and welcoming group of 22 College age Counselors and 14 AUMC Youth Volunteers. After morning check in and worship, campers enjoyed a snack, Bible study, lunch and an afternoon of free time and snow cones. At the afternoon camper rally, campers sang songs and reflected on what they learned that day as they concluded the day’s agenda.

Thank you to Eagle Lake Camp for choosing AUMC to host the On Location Day Camp. Thank you to all the individuals who volunteered their time and services the week of camp. Thanks to the businesses and organizations which financially supported the Day Camp: Barton’s Service Center, Community National Bank, First Independent Bank, Hog Tide Bar-b-que, Kemin, Aurora Lions Club, Simmons Bank, Sonic, Aurora United Methodist Men and Walmart. And a very special thank you to all the individuals at Aurora United Methodist Church and in the Aurora community who sponsored camp fees for many, many children in our community.

AUMC’s goal was to bring a quality Christian camping experience to kids in our community. This camp was a success because we are very fortunate to live in a community that values faith and invests in the future of our children. With our community’s support, every child from seven to 12 years old who wanted to attend camp was able.

AUMC plans to host this same camp next summer, so start making plans now to have your child or grandchild attend. There will be lots to do and much to learn, as one camper wrote in a thank you note, “Learned how to play in a team. I am thankful for bringing it, cause it was fun and encouraging bible study. The best too was all the activities that we do are so fun specially [sic] the water slide and I made new friends. THANK YOU for making my week the best.”
