“MPD snags alleged shooter” was the exciting headline pasted across the top of the front page of the Aug. 30, 2013, edition of The Moberly Monitor-Index.

The MPD was reporting that it had arrested a man suspected of letting off several gunshots in Columbia, Missouri's Douglass Park a week prior. The man was found on West Reed Street in Moberly.

Also on the front page three years ago today was news that Columbia author Alex George had visited Moberly's Little Dixie Regional Library. George, a native of England, spoke about his then-latest novel, “A Good American.”

In other news, Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols had spoken to the Monitor-Index to share tips on how to safely celebrate Labor Day weekend, a weekend known for high rates of drunk driving and traffic crashes.

Moberly Area Community College had also OK'd dual-credit partnerships with around 30 state schools.
