Aurora, Mo. -

Several things are happening at St. John’s Hospital--Aurora on Tuesday, July 7.

The community is welcome to take part in the events, according to hospital personnel.

The kick-off of the Aurora hospital’s 50th Anniversary Celebration starts with the picnic that day.

The annual picnic is a fundraiser for the West Region Foundation, a charitable arm of the facility.

The community is invited to have lunch, supper or both there that day. The menu will be the same as prior years with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, polish sausage and Bob Brown’s famous marinated turkey.

Hospital employees can “dress down” that that day by giving a $5 donation to the Foundation.

There will be a silent auction for a variety of baskets donated by the various departments.

“This is a fun event for co-workers and their families and I’ll do the cooking,” noted Don Buchanan, director of the West Region Foundation.

The auxiliary unit at St. John’s Hospital--Aurora has come up with a cool idea for fundraising, too. Schwan’s Fundraising will have a truck on the north lawn area by the Carol Morris Conference Room from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Based on the dollars sold on this day, Schwan’s will donate a percentage to the auxiliary, said a hospital spokesman.

The truck will have over 300 of Schwan’s quality products from which to choose. Simply stop by, place your order from the Schwan’s representative and take your products home to enjoy.

“I’m confident you will find something for every eating occasion, flavor profile and for any nutritional need,” said Kirstin Nava, executive assistant at St. John’s Hospital--Aurora.

Schwan’s does accept cash, checks, major credit cards and EBT. Payment for the product will be made at the event.

“Thank you in advance for your support of our auxiliary fundraiser.  With your partic ipation, we will be that much closer to our goal of generating funds for the Mammogram Project,” said Nava.
