Marionville's Applefest 2010 is about a month away!
The theme this year is "Red, White, and Blue,” featuring the community’s red apples, white squirrels and blue Comets.
Patrons should take note the celebration is set for September 17 and 18. Organizers moved to the third weekend in September (versus the last week in previous years) to avoid conflict with other festivals in the area. As always, a big lineup of entertainment is planned beginning at noon on Friday.
The annual parade will take place at 10 Saturday morning. Following the parade, Apple Daze in the park, a car show and a few new things, like an apple-pie-eating contest, are on tap.
For the pie-eating contest, contestants will pay an entry fee, receive a whole pie and be timed and judged to see who can eat the most in the shortest amount of time. The winner will take all the proceeds from the entries, said a spokesman.
The parade will assemble at the school as usual, but head south on College to South, turn east to Central, proceed north to Lyon, turn west, then pick up the usual route at the corner of Lyon and Missouri streets. The parade route is listed in the Applefest books, which are in area businesses.
Space is still available for those that want to secure a booth. To reserve a space, phone Kathy Urschel at 463-2507.
The Kathy Duda Crafters’ Award will also be presented to the booth having the best display of true craftsmanship. The award is presented in honor of Kathy Duda, an avid craftsperson who died March 12, 2008.
For information on booth spaces, call 417-258-2269, in addition to the number listed earlier.
