Aurora, Mo. -

The Aurora Park Board voted 6-0 to fill the old Aurora pool and convert it to green space at a special meeting May 20.

At the previous, regular meeting of the board May 11, a citizen had approached the board about paying architect Richard Werner to look at the pool, at no cost to the city. The city had agreed.

A presentation from Werner was on the agenda for the May 20 meeting, but he was not present. Parks Director Trent Thompson advised he had not heard from him regarding the meeting.

Parks Board President Kirstin Bloss then presented several options to the board on how to instruct Thompson to proceed. Board member Mike McKay moved and member Thomas Rysted seconded a motion to fill in the pool. Board members Greg Moore and Theresa Pettit were absent.

According to City Clerk Kathy Needham, the park board will be meeting again on Monday, June 8, to hear from a “community interest group.”

A special session of the Aurora City Council has been called for Wednesday, June 10, for the park board to meet with the council and make a report on the status of the pool.
