A new event is on tap for a fundraiser for the annual Lawrence County Relay for Life, which is sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

The event is Taste for a Cure and is set for 6 to 8 p.m., April 24, at Pate Early Childhood Center in Aurora. Coordinating the evening are Sondra Kennedy and Melissa Kennedy.

Tickets for the event are $10 in advance or $12 at the door; all proceeds will go the American Cancer Society. Tickets are available at Alice Irene’s in Marionville, Community National Bank in Aurora and Liberty Bank in Mt. Vernon.

“Melissa and I came up with the idea of ‘Taste for a Cure’ as a way for area family-owned restaurants to spotlight their products or a way to introduce something new, as well as a community involvement with Relay for Life,” said Sondra Kennedy.

“We have all been affected in some way or another by cancer, whether a family member, friend or acquaintance, it has touched all our lives,” she continued. “Our family has personally been affected by cancer in several aspects. I have survived Hodgkin’s disease and breast cancer; my father died six months after being diagnosed with lung cancer; and Melissa’s grandfather passed away just three months after finding cancer from a mole on his chest that metastasized to his lungs.”

Area eateries participating in the event include:
• Acambaro Mexican Restaurant
• Alice Irene’s Restaurant
• Betty’s Cakes
• Blackbird Bar and Grill
• Bootlegger’s Restaurant
• Estell’s
• K&K Confections
• Lai Lai Chinese Restaurant

• Reyes Mexican Restaurant
• Richard’s Hawgwild BBQ
• Rocco’s Pizza
• The Bayou Lunch Box
• The Brown Bag
• Uncle Dale’s Catfish Restaurant
• Krispy, Krunchy Chicken

Along with a taste of the good food from area restaurants, patrons of the event can take part in a silent auction for a variety of goods donated by area businesses.

Businesses participating in the auction include:  Aurora Agri Center, Crystal Creations, Luggage Works, Scott  Photography, Aurora Greenhouse, Jimmy Michel Motors, Journagan’s True Value, ABC Photography, Your Pizza Place, Patti’s Hair Salon, Kathy Mosier/Pampered Chef, Community National Bank, L&M Tire Service, Parkway Hardware, Marilyn Rodgers/Avon Essentials, Blessings Candles and Floral, Donna’s Flower Basket, Walter’s Chiropractic, Keen Bean Coffee Roasters, First Independent Bank, Mid-Missouri Bank, Virginia’s Vacation Travel, Dr. Kleen/Mold Inspector, Kaffe Metropolitan, Perfect Image, Movie Gallery, Primitive Peddler, Aurora Pet Salon, Pitlane Superlube, Cadaja Salon, Modern Variety, John Watts Chiropractic, Hillbilly Gas Mart, 4M Productions, Hometown Pharmacy, Royal Creations, Wheeler Furniture, Ila Bohm’s, MFA/Aurora, Hair Company, Grand Tire, Mayse Automotive and Kansas City Chiefs.
