The Lady Comets opened with a big win over Wheaton in the Lady Comets Softball Tournament on September 29 and finished the day with a shut-out game against Pierce City.
The Lady Comets, coming in as the No. 1 seed, scored seven runs in the first inning against Wheaton and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless with Haley Lane pitching.
Marionville added another run in the bottom of the second on an error to be up 8-0.
Marionville earned the 12-4 win to advance into the winner’s bracket.
In the semifinal round, the Lady Comets faced Sarcoxie, which was the No. 5 seed.
Marionville topped the Lady Bears 11-1 to proceed to the championship game against Pierce City, which was the No. 2 seed.
Earlier in regular season, Pierce City defeated Marionville by one run, but the Lady Comets came to play Saturday and win the championship.
Eden Henry pitched for the Lady Comets, keeping the Lady Eagles scoreless for the entire game.
In the bottom of the first, Jaycie Dishman sent a line-drive up the middle to bring in Marionville’s first run of the game.
McKenzie McDonald brought in a run on a grounder to right field, while Bailey Stine brought in another run on a line drive to right field to put the Lady Comets up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Marionville scored its final run as Whitney Wright hit a grounder to short
centerfield.
Pierce City loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, but Marionville held the Lady Eagles scoreless.
The Lady Comets won
4-0 for the championship
title.
Marionville started district contests on October 3 in the Class 2 District 7 Tournament at Pleasant Hope. Marionville drew Crane in the first round of play. Game information is available online at auro
