• Dawgs go 2-0 in Big 8; Comets fall 0-2 in MidLakes

  • Despite a delay of game because of the weather, Aurora came out ready to play and gain a second win in the Big 8 Conference as the Houn' Dawgs hosted Seneca Friday.
    The Dawgs opened kicking off to the Indians, but an interception by Everett Basham led to an Aurora touchdown. Basham ran the ball in for a touchdown with 7:49 left in the first quarter, and Cody Coatney's extra point was good.
    William Blankenship scored again for Aurora in the first quarter with 45.9 seconds left. Another successful extra point and Aurora led 14-0.
    Seneca mustered a drive late in the second quarter to find the endzone, but that was the only score in the second quarter. Aurora led 14-7 at the half.
    Aurora received in the second half, and Coatney returned the ball 30 yards. Kurt Hadlow and Basham gained yardage in the drive by breaking tackles. Eventually, Basham found the endzone for another Aurora touchdown with 8:57 left in the third quarter.
    Aurora led 21-7.
    Aurora's defense had a big night, keeping the Indians in check. Josh McCullough and Chad Hughes had instrumental sacks.
    Hadlow had an interception late in the third quarter to give Aurora possession at the start of the fourth quarter. On that drive, Basham ran the ball for five yards to score Aurora's final touchdown of the night. The score was 27-7.
    With less than three minutes to go, Seneca scored its second touchdown of the night and went for the two-point conversion and was successful.
    Aurora ended the night with the 27-15 win to go 2-0 in the Big 8 Conference and 3-0 overall.
    The Marionville Comets hosted the Strafford Indians Friday, but the Comets couldn't get an offensive foothold against the tough Strafford team.
    Strafford kept Marionville off the board through the first half, while the Indians racked up 37 points.
    The Comets scored in the fourth quarter with 6:22 left. Seth Smith scored while Ryan White was successful on the two-point conversion. Marionville lost 8-44 and went 0-2 in the MidLakes Conference and 0-3 overall.
