  • Fire Chief Robert Ward reports an upgrade to the burn warning for Aurora and Marionville.
“Conditions have improved to the point that we will now issue burn permits for leaves, limbs and garden materials,” said the chief.
“No ground burning will be allowed without a permit. This includes the normal 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. burn times when burning is allowed in approved burn containers,” Ward continued.
“As conditions improve, we will completely lift the burn warning,” the chief added.
On July 19, the chief reported both cities were under a burn warning, which meant no open burning was permitted inside the city limits of either city. This meant the only approved burning was to be in approved burn containers.
At that time, Ward also noted if conditions continued to decline, a burn ban would be considered.
Fire Chief Tony Hinkle with the Verona Fire Department issued a burn ban for the city limits of Verona just prior the Fourth of July. The ban, which is still in effect, restricts burning, fireworks and any other hazardous activity that may spark fires.
In mid July, the Lawrence County Commission issued a burn ban, as well. That ban is still in effect
